8U Nats advance to State Tournament

The 2024 8U Nats secured their spot in the 2024 State Tournament in Wilson after defeating the East Surry Little League All-Stars 13-10.

The 8U Nats got off to a hot start in the first inning with William Townsend's triple that plated lead-off hitter Kelly Quick.

Townsend's one-run triple was followed by Will Tabacca's two-run inside-the-park home run and a two-run double by John Lynch.

East Surry fought back to tie the game in the top of the 5th inning, but timely hits from Clayton Piersol, Lynch and Luke Sullivan plated three runs in the bottom of the 5th.

In the top of the 6th, third baseman Ben Gauder stabbed a line drive and doubled off the East Surry baserunner to end the game via a double play.

In the nightcap, the 8U Nats were defeated in the District 2 Championship by host team East Chatham Little League All-Stars Blue, 7-2.

Quick and Mason Booher drove in Ryan Atkins and Gauder respectively to provide for the only two runs of the day for the 8U Nats.

Infield duo Grayson Allen and Quick provided solid defensive play up the middle all day, and Nats outfielders Kade Seaver, Bo Braden, Sullivan, Piersol, Booher and Atkins made great plays throughout both games to keep East Surry and East Chatham baserunners at bay.

The 8U Nats now move on to the State Tournament in Wilson.
