11U Nats grind out victory against East Surry, 9-3

In Sunday afternoon action, the 11U Nats came out on top over the East Surry All Stars, 9-3.

The 11U Nats came out disciplined at the plate after with Leftfielder Brian Holden, Jr. roped a double to left center to start off the action. After a 10-pitch at bat from Watt Hendrix that ended in a base on balls and Hunter Forrest was hit by a pitch, Hudson Guelbert took a base on balls that scored Holden. Another base on balls plated the second and final runner of the inning.

The bottom of the first ended as second baseman Hudson Callahan and Hendrix teamed up for a putout at second that then led to a runner's interference call to complete a double play to end the inning.

After trading runs, the Nats' bats came alive, scoring five runs in the 5th and 6th innings respectively. Hunter Forrest's three-run double that plated Levi Stewart, Holden and Hendrix opened the game open for the 11U Nats.

That's all they needed as the 11U Nats five pitchers - Stewart, Hendrix, Forrest, Bryce Chilson, and Guelbert - delivered a solid outing, holding East Surry at bay with 7 strikeouts and only giving up 8 hits.

The 11U Nats play on June 24th at 6:30 PM in Pittsboro against NW Forsyth.
